2) Visual Design – Making the picture works.
Every visible object attracts attention by its tone, color, shape, size, location, or other physical properties and characteristics. The degree to which it attracts attention is known as its visual importance or weight.
Competition for attention between objects of similar or differing weights, called tension, keeps our eyes constantly moving so our normal visual experience is dynamic.
Good balance usually means taking advantage of tension without letting the visual pull of any one object get out of control.
The study of tension is called visual design. Visual design is the application and knowledge of how the “points” help to make the picture works.
